About Part G  - Internal Water Use

Under Part G Building Regulations, Internal Water Use is regulated to a maximum of 125 litres per person per day, and is to be calculated to demonstrate compliance.

These calculations are required for new dwellings as part of the completion documentation by Building Control or the relevant Building Control checking body.

Sometimes, as a consequence of a planning condition attached to the dwelling consent, the Local Planning Authority can impose a condition limiting the use down to 110  litres per person, per day.

This is achieved by restricting fittings and flow rates on appliances.

New WCs: To be dual flush with flushing restricted to 6 litre full flush and 4.5 litre part flush. (Other variations are available via differing manufacturers).

Kitchen Sink Taps: Taps to be fitted with flow restrictors limiting the flow from the tap spout to 9 litres per minute. (Other variations are available)

Hand Basins: Taps to be fitted with flow restrictors limiting the flow from the tap spout to 5 litres per minute. (Other variations are available)

Bath Volume: Not to exceed 210 litres up to the overflow.

Shower Heads: To be fitted with restrictors limiting the flow to 9 litres per minute.

Washing machines and dishwashers are excluded from the above and can be defaulted to worse figures which will be included for within the calculation procedure.

The above figures are also based on a bath and shower being present in the dwelling.

At the design stages, we can advise on the specifications necessary and produce preliminary calculations to ensure compliance at completion. We therefore also produce the calculation at completion – indicating  ‘as Built’ for the relevant authority.
